a gift given, made, sacrificed

Praise God from Whom ALL blessings flow…

#386   given invitation to our family reunion…having been over 16 years since I had seen most of them.

#387  potluck meal at reunion…some mean cooking made and oh so blessed with so much food!

#388   Visited graveyard in the small,  town.  My great-great grandfather who fought in the Civil War and all other blood-relative who sacrificed their lives to fight for our freedom, including my grandfather who fought in WWII.

Thank God for family…close and distant…messy and blessed…simple and complex.   Family.

Story after story.

Picture after picture.

Memory after memory.

Wrinkles and freckles.

Kids climbing on rocks, swinging in hammock.

Chilly and damp spring evening but warmed with fire in pit and fellowship.

Tummy sore from eating too much and laughing so hard.

Reunited.

Until next time…

#371  an original wooden crooked cross a friend gave our family

"The Crooked Cross is purposely imperfect; handcrafted without use of measures or patterns to remind us how unique, individual and beautiful we all are. As our creator, God in Heaven made each one of us in His Image, we are His children and perfect in his eyes, as He does not make mistakes."

3 gifts reflecting

#364    daughter wanting to start her own Joy Dare…(hopefully a little bit reflecting her mom’s same desire to hunt for joys and a lot reflecting Jesus’ joy!)  Her joys were 1) saving a lost dog   2) eating ice cream with a new special friend.

#365  We reflect the glory of God!

The hope and joy to live with…here on earth we will see a poor reflection - in heaven you will see clearly.

#367    “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we, who with unveiled faces all REFLECT the Lord’s glory, and being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.”                                                          2 Cor. 3: 17-18

img_6983

#363  the feeling of close.  Don’t we all desire to have the feeling to be close to someone or something?   And the core of that feeling starts when God creates each of His children.  He created us with the need to feel close…to be intimate with Him…to be closer to Him than any other person or thing on this earth.

3 gift woven together

#347  the scarlet cord I was given to be a reminder of Rahab’s redemption

#348   We are woven into God’s family...with the family of believers…woven into Jesus’ lineage.

Woven…interlacing threads…vessels.

Beautiful yet twisted.

Just studied the end of the book of Ruth.  Her lineage was part of Jesus’ heritage and lineage…along with Tamar and Rahab.   Women known for being a poor foreigner and  prostitutes, whose lives were woven into Jesus’ lineage.

Woven like a scarlet cord.

img_6868

Scarlet is woven throughout Jesus’ lineage

In Egypt, the slaves, who became God’s chosen people - the Israelites, put a scarlet mark with blood on their doors and posts so God would pass over their homes and save their lives from death under Pharaoh's rule.

Scarlet was an essential color in the fabrics of the curtains around the tent or tabernacle where God was worshipped and sacrifices were offered as Moses and God’s people wandered for 40 years.

The scarlet blood was shed from many animal sacrifices.

And then there was Tamar.  Her son, Perez, who was part of Jesus’ lineage, wore a scarlet thread around his wrist when he was born so Tamar could know which of her boys was born first. (Genesis 38)

And not long after than, Rahab threw a scarlet cord out her window so Joshua’s spies and soldiers redeemed and saved her and her family as they began to take over their Promised Land (Joshua 2).

Matthew records in his gospel that a scarlet robe was put around Jesus as he was mocked by the Romans and they prepared for his crucifixion. (28:27)

And then, the final sacred, scarlet sacrifice of God’s Son was accepted…was offered…was given…was complete.

All of those scarlet cords of identity and sacrifice were woven through history.

And that scarlet cord is still what keeps Jesus’ lineage flowing.  God’s story is not over.  His genealogy continues.

Because they trusted God, Ruth and Rahab’s lives were significant even though they didn’t see it that way.  But even if they didn’t realize it, like we may not realize it… we need to trust that that scarlet cord woven in our lives will also be extended past our lifetime.

The scarlet cord of blood vessels are woven into the depths of our bodies…and our souls.

As I write this, I remember my redemption story.  The time when I asked Jesus to rescue me…to be my kinsman-redeemer.  It’s when I found out I had to have brain surgery because there were many blood vessels twisted around a main vein in my brain causing me to have seizures.  Twisted…messed up.  Yet God took something twisted in my life and made it beautiful.  The beauty of redemption.

#350  Redemption flowed through my scarlet veins woven throughout my soul.

For all Your goodness I will keep on singing
Ten thousand reasons for my heart to find

Bless the Lord, O my soul
O my soul
Worship His holy name
Sing like never before
O my soul
I'll worship Your holy name”
