#316  the gift of waiting

why would waiting be a gift?  who wants to wait?  who likes to wait?  who likes to wait at the red light?  who likes to have to wait a long time for the order at a fast food restaurant?  who likes to wait to hear what the doctor says after you had to have MRI’s?  who likes to wait for…almost anything?

But waiting is a gift from God, even though it’s hard to think of waiting as a gift.  You might have heard that God works in His own time for a reason and that means we have to wait.

But what about the disciples and the people who followed and loved Jesus about 2000 years ago?   What did they have to wait for?  Jesus was crucified.  He was dead.  Put in a tomb.  Did they have anything to wait for?  I bet they wish they had something to HOPE for.

We have the gift of knowing that Jesus is risen.  We know all we have to do is wait until Sunday.

The disciples didn’t know Jesus would return – that He was about to be risen back to life.  If I was one of them, I think I wouldn’t complain much of having to wait if I knew He truly would arise!

So, I thank God for the gift of waiting…
