Where is your home? Little Revelations Day 15

On this dreary, rainy day I’m thankful for the warmth of home.

Home is where you wear your slippers, pull warm linens out of the dryer, hold a warm drink in your hands and snuggy under a fuzzy blanket with your daughter on the couch.

IMG_4305a

Home is where you can do your chores with your hair looking crazy after getting out of bed in the morning, where you show your true self…inside and out.

Home is comfort.  Home is a refuge.

IMG_4303a

Being at home today is made to be a place of rest, a place for restoration physically, emotionally and spiritually, and home is to be a refuge from being stretched in all directions.

That’s how God created us… needing that; needing a place, a home for retreat.

On earth, “home” to us can be different things to different people. For some, home is when you’re with your family recreating by playing games, travelling or eating dinner together. Some people find a feeling of home when hiking in God’s natural creation or spending time at the beach. Others feel home when they go to visit their aging parents in the home they grew up in most of their life.

The feeling of home can be when you are alone in your house curled up on the couch with the fireplace lit reading a book. One of my favorite feelings of home is when I’m on our screened-in porch, resting in the lounge chair, on a warm day, listening to the birds sing melodies, enjoying the greenness of leaves on the trees and just soaking in the warmth  as I journal to God.

Where do you feel most home?

The way we know home today is just a glimpse of what our true home will be in heaven.   Some day our bona fide home with be revealed.

Until then, I’m so thankful for our home of refuge.  And I’m OK that it’s filled with a thin layer of dust, a little bit of clutter, crumbs on the table, laughter, music, clanking of utensils on the dinner plates and stories.

They got me! Little Revelations Day 13

I.was.so.surprised.

I.am.so.blessed.

(But that’s not really a new revelation this time…I know I am blessed…but there’s never too many reminders!)

My most thoughtful and well-planning and preparing husband who I know loves me, joined with my family and dear friends, and threw me a surprise 80’s theme 40th birthday party!

They got me good.  I had no clue!   Family and friends from both here and far were there.

I felt humbled and small, surrounded by a HUGE crowd of the life-support-encouraging-love givers in my life.

What a fun night!

Saying “thank you” could never be enough….

Just.Trust. Little Revelations Day 12

I almost didn’t sit down to open the Word this morning.  I thought… “I’m going to be on a field trip next week instead of bible study, so I’ll have some extra time later to work on the study.”  I had laundry to do, a house to clean spic and span because we have company this weekend (which could take a while to do!), having to make a trip to the grocery, and getting ready for a scrapbook workshop tonight.

But that old, saggy couch and the pillows that support my back beckoned me to come sit down. So I did.

Read about Gideon.  Gideon?  Really?

Judges 6:11-24.

An angel, or the LORD himself, casually walks over to a poor, shy, reserved guy who lives on fear and all his life has been in hiding.  Hiding from his enemy, from death, from the unknown.

But the LORD tells Gideon, “I’m with you, mighty warrior.  Go and save the Israelites.”

Well, of course he blames God for the suffering he’s had to live with but had nothing left to loose.  He had nothing to loose. He remembers hearing about the previous Judges and prophets who saved the people from despair…Moses being one of them.

But deep within, Gideon may have heard, “You are my Moses for this generation”.

The Lord said to him, “The LORD is with you, mighty warrior.”  That is how God saw Gideon…as a warrior.   But being the shy and reserved human he was…(hmmm sounds familiar)…. Gideon didn’t see himself as a warrior.  He saw himself as the runt of the tribe.  The little, shy one who thinks if he can hide, he’ll be safe.  But God can only speak Truth.  So the truth was that, deep inside…in the core of who God created Gideon to be… was a warrior.  That is how God saw him.

We usually don’t see ourselves the way God sees us.  Instead we hide…at least I have and still do sometimes.  What would you say if…I mean when… the LORD says to you, “I’m with you, (fill in the blank with your name, job, or calling) .”    I’m guilty for being like Moses, Gideon and many others, saying, “Me, God?  No, no, no… I’m not the one for this plan of Yours…  I’m not a warrior.  I’m not a Proverbs 31 woman who balances life and does everything perfectly.  I’m not an evangelist.  I’m not a writer.   I’m not good enough.”

But God can only.speak.Truth.

The LORD said, “Go in the strength you have and save Israel…Am I not sending you???  I’ll cover the rest!”   God couldn’t call Gideon a warrior if he wasn’t one…or going to be one...because he could only speak Truth.

Then the LORD revealed who HE IS when Gideon humbly offers him a sacrifice with true gratitude and awe.

I am not a warrior.  At least that I know of…and maybe I should be more like?  But I can relate well to Gideon and to Moses and the other people that God told to get out of their comfort zone and just.trust.

It was an ordinary day, doing his job threshing wheat, when all of a sudden…bam!…God gave him a revelation

So, being a mom on an ordinary day…checking off my never-ending to-do list…bam!…God can give revelations today too…just being in His Presence on this saggy ‘ole couch and being simply reminded to just.trust. because God cannot lie.  He can only speak Truth.

It was worth putting off my to-do list a little longer…

Pondering Daily Revelations Day 11

IMG_9395

Pondering on this autumn day…

“Our ‘dwelling place’ may be physical – a room, apartment, or house.  It may also be a metaphor for mental and emotional (and spiritual) ‘space.’  We can invite others into our inner world of thoughts and feelings, sharing gifts of heart and mind.  Gracious inner space gives other room to play, question, and converse; room to be heard and understood; room to reveal themselves as they choose.

Soul Feast by Marjorie J. Thompson

Where is your dwelling place…your home?  Ponder that…

Light of Revelation - Daily Revelations Day 10

IMG_9394

Early this morning the sun was climbing up bright and radiant.  The yellow-green and red-yellow leaves were resplendent.  I could see the sun’s rays touching them and warming them up on this brisk morning.

He whispered… “I am the Light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”   John 8:12

Within the next hour, praying with a group of women, the first words she said were, “God, You are the Light of the world.  Shine your light on us and through us…”

Then this afternoon on the way home from getting the kids at school, as we talked about homework assignments, the band festival and trying to play a new instrument – the French horn- we looked out the window to see a  show displaying sun rays descending through the growing and and expanding dark clouds.

It looked almost as if there was a stairway to heaven (Genesis 28:12)

Jesus’ light was catching my attention all day today.   Was it for me to look up?  To slow down?  To be quiet?  To be in awe and give Him the glory?  To put light in the dark crevasses?   To make me stop and thank Him?  To reflect on His radiance?

Probably all of those reasons and more.

Jesus came to earth to be alight of revelation” (Luke 2:32).

Jesus, Light of Revelation, shine bright…shine bright.

13 reason why I love you, son…Little Revelations Day 9

This day 13 years ago I was scared to death and full of unexpected joys and hopes being that this was the very beginning of motherhood.  I had no idea what to do with something with fingers and toes so tiny, skin so soft and a heart so real.

Now it’s 13 years later and as almost everyone says, “It’s gone by so fast, where did the time go so quickly?”  I’m one of them, too.

I realize he really is a teenager now.  He’s growing up and I can’t put enough bricks on his head to slow him down from getting taller and sometimes I worry that I haven’t put enough wisdom and Truth in his heart, soul and mind…especially because he’ll be more exposed to the scary world out there.

But, I’ll put my trust in Abba, the perfect Parent, to watch over him and protect him…  and to calm my anxious- mama- worries.

These 13 reasons only skim the surface of the reasons I love him…and are what I shared with him today…and praying those words will stay close to him inside…

1.  You have a heart and concern for other people

Your entire life you have.  You are a friend to everyone you meet and even to people you don’t know.  I remember when we were on our trip in Colorado when you were almost 3 and we saw a blind little boy who was not much older than you.  You had so much concern for him and I remember you praying for him that night.  That is just one story of the many times I’ve seen your heart reach out to others.

2.  You share.

You’ve always shared your toys, your food, your time, and your laughter. You share your joy and your faith and your love with your family, friends and even strangers.

3.  You always try your best.

You’re a go-getter and want to do well.  You try hard.  It isn’t easy for you to give up.  You have determination.  All are strong qualities.

4.   You love to laugh with your mama!

With open mouth wide, head stretched back, and a stitch on your side from laughter. I love that!

5.  You ask lots of questions

I want you to always ask a lot of questions.    Ask me and Dad a lot of questions.  Ask the special adults in your life questions.  Ask God a lot of questions.  Let your questions be silly or serious.  Let you questions be given answers of wisdom, encouragement, truth and love.

6.  You love your mama’s cooking and eat a lot of it.

You always have. You always compliment by eating seconds and thirds and then finishing off dad’s, Libby’s and my meals and crumbs. You’d literally lick the plate if we weren’t trying to teach you table manners. You love my meatballs, enchiladas (that I’m fixing you for dinner tonight), salads and even quiche!

IMG_9383

7.  You’re not only a good athlete but even better, a strong teammate and encourager.

I’ve seen you on the field since you were four years old.  Each year you’ve learned new skills and what it’s like to be on a team.  Over the years I’ve so often heard you yelling to your teammates during games, “Good job!  Good kick!  Keep going guys!  Great save! Play hard!”  You keep that up, son.  That makes you a strong athlete on the inside and out.

8.   Even though you’re already at least 5” taller then your mama, you’re still my baby

You’ll always be my firstborn child.  You’ll always be the same little baby boy I held in my arms in the wee hours of the morning watching you sleep.

9.   You love Jesus.

I hope, as your mom, that I’ve instilled a little bit of God’s enormous love for you, even though it’s almost impossible to comprehend. It brought me joy (and even happy tears) when you gave your life to Christ…at the David Crowder Band concert… and even more when you decided you were ready to be baptized. Those holy moments are priceless and literally being right beside you when you made that decision and walked into that water are some of the most precious gifts to me.

10.  You pray with us.

One of the most special times each day is to be on my knees with you in prayer. It’s been a gift as you’ve gotten older to hear your prayers and how they become more from the depths of your heart.

11.  You are more and more living by God’s Word….strong and courageous.

Your first name is Joshua…and you know taken from Joshua 1:9 - one of my life verse’s that I try to live by, too.  I want you to be reminded of that promise often, and being that it’s part of your name, I pray that’s just another way to remind you.  I’m proud of you for choosing your soccer jersey number to be 19…1:9.

12. …because I see God is using you in many ways that we know, don’t know and don’t know yet.

You are a joy to many people just by your smile, kindness and the choices you’ve made. There are many more decisions and choices you’ll be making in life, especially in the next few years, that will test you and strengthen you. Hold fast to God’s Word and He will continue to use you as a LIGHT to the people in your life.

13.  You are my son.

I don’t think there’s any perfect words or ways to explain the love a mom has for her son.  It is high, low, deep and wide. It is always growing and never-ending.

Happy 13th Birthday, son!  I love you!
